SNAKES THAT FLY FROM TREE TO TREE

In the tropical forests of South- east Asia, flying snakes take off from a high branch and glide to the next tree. They use muscles to spread their ribs wide, which flattens the body, and undulate through the air with a controlled S-shaped swimming motion, travelling up to 20 m (65 ft) in a single flight Although the flying snake is an able climber, flying is a more energy- efficient way to travel through the forest than going up and downtrees.
